How to give EpiPen

1 Form fist around EpiPen and PULLOF BLUE SAFETY RELEASE

2. Hold leg still and PLACE ORANGE END against outer mid-thigh (with or  without clothing)

3. PUSH DOWN HARD until a click is heard or felt and hold for 3 seconds then REMOVE EpiPen

Provide ambulance with the used EpiPen® and the time it was given.

Note: When an adrenaline (epinephrine) infjector device is being given (or self administered) the person having anaphylaxis should be laying flat, in the recovery position or sitting with their legs outstretched. They should remain in this position (not standing or walking) after the device has been given, until they have fully recovered.  More information about positioning is on the ASCIA website https://www.allergy.org.au/hp/anaphylaxis/positioning which includes infographics and a video.
